These solar panels power the CO2Now.org website. They are located at the AISO.net data centre near Sun City, California. The sun powers the web servers in the data centre. It also produces extra power that is stored in batteries to keep the data center running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The AISO.net facility is the only data center in the world that gets its energy directly from the sun.
Michael McGee, creator of the CO2Now.org website, is featured in the foreground. The photo was taken in July 2009 when Michael visited Phil Nail, CTO for AISO.net, and the AISO data center. The AISO solar-powereed data center makes it possible for small and large website owners to use energy that is secure, reliable, affordable and zero carbon -- without needing offsets.
CO2Now.org is hosted from the same sun-powered data center as a number international organizations and companies. Among many others, these include Climate Savers (started by Google and Intel), Nestlé (headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland), Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society and MacGillivray Freeman Films. |
